As of April 5, 2025, the situation in the Gaza Strip has intensified significantly, marked by increased Israeli military operations and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
Israeli Military Operations
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have expanded their ground assault in Gaza, establishing the “Morag Corridor,” a new security zone aimed at isolating the city of Rafah from the rest of the enclave. This corridor is part of a broader strategy to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages and relinquishing control over the territory.
In the northern regions, Israeli troops have intensified operations in areas such as Shujaiya, resulting in significant casualties and displacement among Palestinian civilians. The IDF reports targeting Hamas command centers and militants, but these actions have also led to substantial civilian harm.
Humanitarian Impact
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated alarmingly. The United Nations reports that two-thirds of Gaza has been rendered uninhabitable due to ongoing military operations, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. The blockade has led to severe shortages of essential supplies, with all bakeries ceasing operations due to a lack of flour and fuel, pushing the region to the brink of famine.
Children have been disproportionately affected by the conflict. According to the UN, at least 100 children have been killed or injured daily since the resumption of hostilities on March 18. Additionally, attacks on schools serving as shelters have resulted in significant casualties; for instance, Israeli strikes on three such schools in Gaza City killed at least 33 people, including 18 children.
Attacks on Medical Personnel
Concerns have been raised over attacks on medical personnel. A video has emerged showing the moments leading up to the killing of 15 Palestinian medics by Israeli soldiers, an act described by humanitarian organizations as unprecedented and alarming.
Casualty Figures
The conflict has resulted in a high number of casualties. Since the breakdown of the ceasefire in March, over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, adding to a total exceeding 50,000 deaths since October 2023, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israeli fatalities have surpassed 1,200 in the same period. \
The international community continues to express deep concern over the escalating violence and the severe humanitarian impact on Gaza’s civilian population.
